Iggy and the Stooges will be going on an extended leave after headlining the C2SV Festival in San Jose this Saturday night. Who knows, this could be the last Stooges show ever. It includes James Williamson and Mike Watt.
Bassist Mike Watt is best known for the Minutemen and fIREHOSE. I was lucky enough to see them play in little LA clubs. They were astonishingly good. Guitarist James Williamson wrote all the songs on the Stooges classic Raw Power album and is now also a respected Silicon Valley engineer and will deliver a keynote speech at C2SV.
In February, he’ll be inducted into the Engineering Hall of Fame at California Polytechnic University. “To my knowledge, I am the only holder of a Rock n Roll HOF and an Engineering HOF,” Williamson says.
I grew up with the Stooges, or we all grew up together, something like that. Their music was part of the backdrop to my life during the insane late 60′s – early 70′s and am really glad to finally get to see them live. (I can walk to the venue.) Along with the MC5 and the New York Dolls, Iggy and the Stooges were the precursors of punk and have influenced a zillion bands.
The Stooges – Dirt – Live in Detroit. Maybe my favorite Stooges song ever.
